Gold at Tattua-wga. — An Auckland paper says that a telegram from its correspondent at Tauranga states that gold has been found by Barry and Warbrick’s party in the ranges at Katikati, at the back of the Vesey Stewart Settlement. Of course, further research will have to be made before the value of the discovery can be pronounced upon, but as the place named has for a long time been considered likely, and is in a direct line with the auriferous country at Ohinemuri, on the same range, we should not be at all surprised if the discovery proves of immense value. Even if only a few payable mines are found, a vast impetus will be given to the settlement of the Tau • ranga district, the prosperity of which has been delayed so unaccountably. The land on which the discovery has been made is, we believe, Government land, and we ’have no doubt that it will soon be thoroughly tested by miners from the Thames and Ohinemuri.
