Port Chalmers, October 27, Arrived—Three-masted schooner Panola, 120 days from New York, with 950 tons cargo, half for Dunedin, the remainder for Wellington. Messrs Allen and Street, contractors for the Port section of the Dunedin and Moeraki railways have been sued for £l9O damages to Messrs Bauchoff and Company’s saw mill by the fall of earth and stones. Judgment has been given for plaintiffs, the magistrate remarking that the Government are clearly liable to the contractors. Dunedin, October 27. Wheat is still scarce; best northern samples command readily 6s ; inferior and medium 5s 3d to os 9d; oats are freely dealt in at 2s 2d to 2s 3d for fair to fine feed, up to 2s 4d for milling. The sum of nearly £2OO has been collected for the regatta on December 16th, The programme will be issued directly. The prizes are to be of such a liberal nature as to make it worth the while of crews from distant places to take part in the regatta,
