Drunk and Disorderly. —Walter Armstrong for this offence was fined I Os.

Wife Desertion. The remanded case against Thomas Bonis for having deserted his wife and family at Papanuiwas called on. Accused, who had been admitted to bail on his own recognizances, did not appear. There was no appearance of the prosecutrix, and the case was dismissed. Geoage McLeod was charged with a similar offence. Accused had been arrested at the Christchurch Railway Station on a warrant issued in Otago. Inspector Buckley produced a notice which appeared in the Otago Gazette, and alsoa 1c tter received from theCommissiouer of the Police in Dunedin, Accused admitted he was the man. He had only returned from the West Coast diggings, was a shipcarpenter by trade, and was willing to support his wife. Ordered to pay 10s per week, first payment to be made on the 29th instant. Breach of Justices of the Peace Act. —William Reamus, who had been arrested a little before eleven o’clock, was charged with having committed a breach of the

U L | I - 1 m above Act, by neglecting to attend on a subpoena in a case of obstruction heard on Monday last. In reply to his Worship, defendant said that Mr King, his employer, went to Lyttelton that day, and was not to return until after one o’clock. He told him he would have to attend the Court, and that gentleman said the storeman could take his place in his absence. The storeman had to go to the railway, and did not return until half-past eleven. He (defendant) then came down to the Court, but found the case had been heard. His Worship told defendant that he had placed himself in the position of being locked up all night on warrant for contempt, and he and all others who were subpoenaed to attend the Court should be made aware that if they failed to appear when summoned they were liable to _be arrested on a warrant which might be im mediately issued. The present case would be dismissed. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, November 22. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness— John Augustus, arrested by Constable Bullen, charged with the above, was dismissed with a caution.
