CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, September 28. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Miscellaneous. —J. Woods, sen., was fined 10s tor drunkenness; and Eliza .lane Bray, charged with being drunk and soliciting prostitution, was fined 40s, although she vehemently denied the truth of the charges. Assaulting- Police.—John Hill was fined GOs for assulting a policeman while in the execution of his duty. Failing to Maintain Wipe.—James Carr was charged with failing to maintain his wife and child by paying 15s weekly, according to an order of the Court, the arrears due amounting to £3. The accused handed in a medical certificate showing that he was unable to w r ork, having been recently ill of low fever. The case was adjourned for a month, the Court being desirous of not pressing too severely on the accused, an old man. Petty Larceny. James Allen was charged with the larceny of a swag, valued at 18s, the properly of James Hedge. Evidence was led showing that Allen had taken the swag from the bar of an hotel, and had pawned it at Stewart’s pawnshop. His Worship remarked that drink was beginning to lead Allen into peculiar difficulties, and would yet lead him into greater toils. He was sentenced to one mouth’s imprisonment, witli hard labor.
