CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, Fibbuaby 5. [Before Gh L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] Dbunkbnness.—Garrett Gough and M*ry Gough, charged with being drunk at the Christchurch railway station, were fined 20s and 10s respectively. Abusive Language.—The adjourned case against James Schrader for using abusive language to Wm, Paddy was called on. Mr Loughnan, who appeared for defendant, expressed his client's regret for bis conduct on the previous day, and admitted that he had used the language complained of, but under what he deemed provocation. As the matter of contention which had existed between the parties for some years was about (o be investigated, a recurrence of defendant's conduct was not likely to happen. His Worship said he would impose a fine on this occasion, but the conduct must not be repeated. Fined2os. , LYTTELTOK Tuesday, Febbuaby 5. [Before W. Donald, Esq., E.M., and J. T. Bouse, Esq., J.P.] Dbunkekness. —John William and John Lilly, arrested by Constable Devine, were fined 10s each, or in default forty-eight hours. —Albert Tutbery, arrested by Constable Devine, was fined 20s, or ninety-six hours. Bbeach of Bobough By-Laws.—James Talbot was fined 10s, and 5s costs, for having his chimney on fire. CBUEi/rr to Animais.—T. Wheeler was charged by W. Austin with kicking his dog in the mouth and knocking its teeth out. Mr H. IS T . Naldcr appeared for the defendant. The Bench, after hearing eTJdence, gave judgment for defendant, with costs ss; solicitor's fee, 21s. Absent Without Leave.—James Armstrong and George Bostock, seamen belonging to the Bhip Opawa, wore ordered on board, and Frank Davis and James Carlson, belonging to the Boratell, were sentenced to forty.eight hours' imprisonment,
Abusive Language.—Wra. Austin was charged by T. Wbaelor with this offence. This case arose oat of the quarrel between Austin and Wheeler regarding the kicking of a dog. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for complainant. The cane was dismissed, after evidence had been h^ard. Assault. Palmer, the second officer of the barque Carnatin, was accused by one of the seamen, named Antonio Silver, with this offence. The offence was proved, and accused ordered to pay 10s fine and all expenses.
