THE FERRY ROAD DRAIN AGAIN.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —A few days ago a medical man pointed to that sweet-scented, ornamental watercourse known as the Ferry Road drain, and remarked that it was a fearful hotbed for fever. Mr Editor, you can imagine ray feelings when I toll you that I live exactly twelve yards from that spot. On making enquiries I find that last year there were two cases of fever within two or three chains of this very pi ice, caused by the stench arising from this drain, and yet no alteration has been made. Can you tell me why this is allowed P If this drain belonged to any private individual then you would see how quickly t he Inspector would have the unfortunate owner up before bis Worship, bnt now the residents have either to live in constant dread of fever or leave the district, leaving health out of the question. What an inducement this must be for persons to buy property in this locality. The stench last evening was something unbearable, and if it is that way in cold weather what will it be when the hot weather and nor’ westers come on. By giving this subject publicity through your paper, perhaps the proper authorities may do something for us at once, and not wait until that fearful sickness visits us, which it certainly will unless something is done without delay.
