An additional thirty-eight miles of the Northern railway to Tamworth was opened by the Governor to-day. Adelaide, October 15, j Mr Ward moves in the Assembly to-morrow that tenders be called forthwith for a monthly service between Aden and Adelaide, with permission for steamer to proceed to Sydney ; also, that negociations be opened with the Governments of New South Whies, Tasmania, and New Zealand, to secure co-operation. Arrived—Chimborazo. i Brisbane, October 15. It is stated that a goldfield has been discovered 200 miles west of Blackull, There is , a large quartz mountain and a good show of gold. Otaki, October 15. 1 The body of Gingham, apprentice belonging to the Felix Stowe, was washed up this morning on the beach, three miles south of the ship. Dunedin, October 15. The amount of beer tax which will have to be refunded in Dunedin is £IO3O. A petition is being got up here against the Townships (Towns on Private Lands Regulation ?) Act. The presentation of a purse of sovereigns aud a farewell address to Mr Luckie, on the occasion of his departure for Wellington, took place today. The presentation was made by Messrs J. Russell, Cosgraye, Aitken, and Dormecker. The present Mayor, Mr Brett, having declined to stand for re-election, requisitions were circulated to-day to Dr Campbell and Mr Peacock, asking them to stand. The Fiji Bank is declared finally wound up. The Theatre Royal was well filled for Miss Carbonette’s farewell concert. She goes to Napier on Thursday. [PROM TEE CORRESPONDENTS OP THE PRESS.] Auckland, October 15. DeLias re-opens the Theatre Royal shortly with a dramatic company, including the tragedian Hamilton, now playing in Sydney. One of the recently imported locomotives broke down with a passenger train on the Waikato line, and the passengers were taken on by a goods train. The engines are wholly unsuited for traffic on this line, being deficient in power and weight. ... At a meeting of shareholders of the liji Banking Company to receive the accounts of the liquidation, the same were proved, and the company wound up. The chairman stated that the Bank of New Zealand would still, on behalf of the shareholders, press the Fiji Government tor their right to select 70,000 acres, as promised under charter. Timaru, October 15. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day the following resolution was passed “That the chairman telegraph to the member for Timaru, informing him that up to the present the Government have not taken any action to extend railway accommodation at this station, and that he will also enquire when the uniform rates of railage will be adopted as promised. Dunedin, October 10. Some quartz specimens, apparently very rich, were brought in town yesterday from Hmdon reefs. A coroner’s inquest has been held at Oamaru to-day touching the death of a child under peculiar circumstances. The mother was lodging in a house in Chalmer street, Oamaru, and although there were several persons in the house at the time, no assistance was called in while the woman in labour, and the child perished for lack of necessary assistance. A correct estimate of the second flood seems to be that it is about 22 inches below the highest level of the first flood, but more damage generally has been occasioned by it.
