At Critical Juncture (N.Z.P.A. —Reuter Cable.) (Rec. 10.10). LONDON, Sept. 2. It is understood that a conference of British Commonwealth Prime Ministers will, if possible, open on October 11, says Reuter’s political correspondent. Political quarters, having regard to the state of world affairs, consider that, this conference, which will meet in private, will be one of the most significant events of its kind ever held. It is expected to last for ten days. Messrs Attlee, Noel-Baker, Bevin, Alexander Wilson and Sir Stafford Cripps will be among the British political, leaders who will participate. The discussions will cover a wide range of subjects. The Commonwealth countries have been consulted in advance on the subjects which they desire to discuss. The correspondent adds: —It can be assumed that the matters to be covered in the exchange of ideas will include general British Commonwealth economics, the European recovery in relation to the association of the Commonwealth countries, the Berlin situation, United Nation’s questions, Burma, Malaya, the Antarctic situation, and British Commonwealth interest in defence.
