AUSTRALIAN ITEMS.
VICTORIAN PROSPERITY. SOUTH AUSTRALIA BEHIND AGAIN. Melbourne, Thursday. The revenue of the colony for the year ending SOih June amounted to £8,734,000, being £200,000 above the estimates, and an increase of £317,000 compared with the previous year. Increases were shown in the Customs of £123,000 ; Territorial Revenue, £24,000 ; Railways, £147,000 ; Stamps, £20,000. There was a decrease in the Excise Revenue of £25,000. The total revenue for the past quarter was £52,000 more than that of the corresponding quarter of 1885 to 1886.
Adelaide, June 30. The revenue for the year which closed on the 30th June amounted t0£1,868,000, being £375,000 below the Treasurer’s estimate of November last, and £411,000 below the total receipts of the previous year. There is a decrease on the Customs revenue of £12,000, from Land and Income Tax of £186,000, and from territorial revenueof £59,000. Railway receipts increased by £20,000. The total revenue for the June quarter shows a slight increase on the corresponding period of last year.
