AN AWFUL CATASTROPE.
A THEATRE ON FIRE. London, Sept, 6. A fire occurred at the Aylesbury theatre on Monday night which had the most disastrous result, The theatre was well filled at the time the fire broke out on the stage. The doors were immediately rushed by the affrighted audience, over 100 persona being crushed to death. Several of the performers and a large number of persons who attempted to leave by the stage were burnt to death. Over 160 bodies have been recovered and still 60 persons are missing. Later accounts from Aylesbury confirm the terrible nature of the disaster. Several persons in their terror actually jumped from the gallery into the pit on to the heads of those who ware below. The gallery staireases were narrow and winding and the doors at the bottom jammed. As the people came down they were hurled against the doors at the bottom ot the stair, case, where the way was made clear.
