Sir,—l have heard a lot about your harbo 1 during the short time I have been in Gisborne, but I had occasion to feel it pretty severely on Sunday, and as a warning to others I think it only right that the circumstances should he made known. With two or three companions I was walking along near the end of the breakwater, when, quite unconsciouely, I stepped on a board, and down I went. It seemed to me almost a miracle that I had not treken my legs, or my neck. The board was of the same color as the concrete, and there was nothing to convey a warning. Had I seen the board, it would have been only natural that I should have stepped on it, as there was nothing to indicate the dangerous pitfall beneath. My object in referring to the occurrence is simply because 1 think that the state of things is so disgraceful that attention should be directed thereto—ls for myself J consider I wae fortunate to escape so easily.
