LOCAL PLAY. The match between the probable fifteen and the possible twenty did not eventuate on Saturday afternoon, only six of the probable team turning up on the ground. Three other members were added to the probables, and the nine played fifteen possibles. The possibles forced the game at first, and several times looked like scoring, but Skeet got the ball and carried it up into the possibles' twenty-five. Soon after this Skeet got a mark in front of the possibles’ goal. Bolton took the kick at goal but did not succeed in his attempt. After some further play a try was obtained for the possibles by Jelly, but no goal was kicked. In the second spell another try was obtained for the possibles by Hepburn, which resulted in a goal. No further score was made, the possibles winning by four points to nil. Some good play was shown on both sides, but the probables, who were playing wtth only three backs, were too few to make a stand against their opponents. The following is the team selected to play for Gisborne against the Hawke's Bay representatives Full back: Phillips; three quarters: Snow, Skeet, Bull;halves : Lemuel, Hua; forwards: Allen, Bolton, Dunlop, Lysnar, Lootnb, Leslie, Booth, Ford, Fox ; emergencies—backs : Staite, Langford, Hall; forwards; Turner and Bourke.
