MURDER AT WAIAPU.

A BRUTAL AFFAIR, News was received by Sergeant Bullen on Sunday that a native named William Tarsi, a son of the Rev Mohi Turei, at Waiapu, had murdered his wife, Mere Kapa. The murder took place in an open paddock, and there wore no witnesses to the deed. The unfortunate woman’s face was shot away, and she had evidently been struck with ths butt end of the gun. The murderer escaped to the ranges, and a party has gone in pursuit. Sergt. Bullen left on Sunday for the scene ot the murder, and Mr Booth and Dr Pollen will proceed to Waiapu for the purpose of holding • an inquest.
