PARNELL AND THE TIMES.
THE LIBEL ACTION. A DEFENCE FUND STARTED. London, Aug. 18. It is stated that the libel action brought by Mr Parnell against the Times will collapse, owing to the agents in Scotland, on whom the writ was served, having no copies of the paper in which the alleged libel appears. A rumor that Mr Parnell intends to retire from Parliament pending the inquiry by the Judicial Commissioners is without foundation. A Parnell defence fund has been started for the purpose of meeting the expenses of the enquiry before the Commission.
