THE FISHERIES QUESTION.
MR CLEVELAND’S MESSAGE. PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT EXPECTED. Washington, Sept 1. The Senate is debating a Bill to ba introduced in the House of Representatives to give effect to President Cleveland's views on the Fisheries question. It is considered certain that the President's message will be adopted. It is also asserted that Sir John McDonald, Premier of Canada, will eventually give way and concede the freedom of waterways, under the pretext of loyalty to Imperial interests.
