SPORTING NEWS.
SCRATCHINGS FOR THE MELBOURNE CUP AND DERBY. Melbourne, yesterday. The following horses have been scratched for the Derby :—Venture, Molyneaux, and Heathcote. Venture has been scratched foi the Melbourne Cup. WAERENGA-A-HIKA JOCKEY CLUB. The annual meeting of the Waerenga-a-hika Jockey Club was held at the Masonic Hotel on Saturday afternoon, the President (Mr G. L. Sunderland) in the chair. There were also present: Messrs Adair, Barry, Black, Hepburn, Colebrook, Bennett, S. Parker, Hatton, Bailey, Pritchard, Donnor, Dunlop, Maynard, and Nasmith (Secretary). The balance-sheet and report were read and adopted, the former showing a credit balance of £126 10s lid. Mr Sunderland was re-elected President, on the proposition of Mr Hepburn, seconded by Mr Maynard. Mr Maynard was re-elected Vice-President, proposed by Mr Bennett, and seconded by Mr Barry. The following Stewards were elected:— Messrs Colebrook, Hepburn, Bennett, W. Cooper, Donnor, S. Parker, and Dufaur. Mr Bennett was appointed judge, Mr Colebrook clerk of the scales, Mr Pritchard clerk of the course, Captain Winter starter, and Mr Bennett handicapper. The programme arranged was—Maiden, £2O ; Boxing Dav Handicap. £lOO ; Hurdles, £6O ; Hack Hurdles, £lO ; Flying Handicap, £4O; Hack Flat Race, £lO ; Forced Handicap, £2O. The total value is a slight increase on last year.
