The Old Story.

A man named Hanlan, on Monday afternoon last, incurred very serious consequences owing to his weakness for the glass. He was bent on reaching the Karaka, but his recklessness made it unsafe for him to be on a horse, and equally dangerous for those who might happen to be riding past. Some horsemen found this out to their cost, for three of them were dislodged from their seats and made to bite the dust. But Hanlan himself was the only one to come out of the adventure with a painful penalty for his rashness. When nearing Makaraka he was thrown heavily, and was severely injured. Some of his ribs were broken, and altogether the unfortunate man had a nasty shaking. It was at first thought that hie injuries would result fatally. He was subsequently conveyed to the Hospital, where he is making fair progress towards recovery. Ths other victims ot misfortune escaped witty only a few scratches.
