There seems likely to be a very severe contest for the Wellington Mayoralty this year. It seems to be taken as a foregone conclusion that this year’s Mayoralty will virtually carry a seat in Parliament next election. Mr T. Kennedy Macdonald has consented to stand, and Mr Duthie, a very prominent citzan and Chairman of the Harbor Board, will very likely be also a candidate. Mr Arthur Brown, the late Mayor, is expected to come forward again, and it is not unlikely that the present Mayor, Mr Samuel Brown, may stand for re* election, as well as Councillors Williams and Petherick. Further, a requisition has been presented to Mr Seed, late Secretary for Cus« toms, who has not yet given a decided reply. The petition published, requisitioning Mr T, K. Macdonald, occupied nearly two columns closely printed.
