COUNTY COUNCIL.
The County Council met yesterday afternoon. Present: Crs Clark (Chairman), Coleman, Tuohy, Stubbs, King, Murphy, Orr, and Welhered. INCOMING CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Fraser, asking the Council to make a road ou tne south side of the Pouawa Stream. He estimated the costat about £2O. The Engineer was instructed to frspect and report on the matter at the next meeting. From J. Mclntosh, asking that the amount •topped on account of work not properly performed should be refunded. He maintained the work was properly done. It was decided that the Council would not alter their decision in the matter. From Hapi Kahu, asking the Council to appoint him to inspect the County to see where the variegated thistle was growing — Letter received. From H E Kenny, enclosing bill of costs, and also the Court expenses incurred in the Lte case agai st the Borough Council, the total amount of costs being £2l 4s 2d It was decided to offer £l7 17s in full payment of the account, and also that the Council declined to appeal in the case. From Patutahi Road Board, calling attention to the unsatisf iciory state of the a> r<»Dgement between the Council and that Board in respect to impounding fees.—Resolved to forward a statement of accounts. From Audit Department, stating it was imperative that an account of ad collars •old by Mr Dover, and the number still on hawi, should be sent before the accounts could be passed. The Chairman said a statement had been warded to Wellington. the Survey D par ment, stating in |lBpiy to a request by the Council for a bridle reserve to be laid off through Section 91, Patutahi Survey District, that the Government could not see its way to form a permanent track through the secti on, but staling that there would be no objection to the Council using any track found convenient, until the land was required by the Government.—Received. C« Tuohy said he had received complaints from the residents of Matawhero and Makaraka that he ranger was neglecting to impound the cattle on these roads.—lt was agreed that the ranger should be informed of the complaints. Muir £27 Is 6d, salaries £6O 8s 4d, H. E. Kenny £l7 17s. SCHEDULE OF WORKS. Cr Stubbs considered that this matter should be allowed to stand over till next meeting so as to enable each member to provide himself with a copy, and to allow time to go through the figures. Cr King seconded the motion, which was carried. The Engineer was instructed to prepare an estimate fur the maintenance of all roads ia the c« unty. Cr Stubbs proposed that the schedule prepared by the Engineer with reference to the ex endirure of native rates be adopted, and signed by the Chairman. —Carried. OTHER BUSINESS. Cr Orr drew attention to the fact that the river had washed away part of the road at Tiffen’s homestead.—Engineer authorised to carry out the necessary works, the c st not to exceed £2O. The Cierk was authorised to apply to Government to have roads surveyed through Waipiro and Panikau blocks.
