The Rinking Carnival.

The carnival last night was a great success in every way, the Oity Bink being crowded. A platform has been erected at the opposite end of the ball, and thia was fully occupied, whilst the gallery would hold no more. There was a good band in attendance. A great many of the costumes having been previously given, it i» hardly necessary to individualise, further than to note that Miss F. Porter was belle of the rink. Among the other ladies present were—Misses Townley, Green, Bullen, B. Porter, King, Reeves, Queenin, Langford, Grey( Johnstone, (2), Kennedy (2), Cameron, Beale, Goldsmith,Haprie McPhail; Mrs Sweet, and Mrs Scott. The grand iqarch was gone through capitally, and the Kjzu > bqnd came upto expectations. The comic side of the eotertaiment was exceptionally good, and some of the novelties evoked continuous roars of laughter from the audience, Miss Porter was awarded first prize for the most handsome lady's costume, and Mrs J R Scott for the most original costume. Wi Paku obtained a prize for 'he most handsome gentleman's costume (Native chief) and Mr Simeon for th« most original costume (Bufallo BUI).

'The children’s carnival this afternoon pro. misos to be an equally great success with that of last night.
