HAWKE’S BAY SPRING MEETING. Narieb, last night. The following are the results of the second day’s racing:— MAIDEN PLATE. JetD’Eau.. ~ 1 Foxton ~ ~ ~ 2 Katinka .. ~ '.'.B SECOND HUBDLES. Leopold 1 Manton ~ ..2 Partner The other races were the Selling Handicap, won by Sylph, Deceiver 2, Nile 3, and the Consolation, won by Waterfall, Piorjo 2, and Brown Duka 3. SPORTING NOTES. [By Manuka, j On Saturday morning nine horses were on the Ormond track. The first to strip was Nora, who went n mile and a half at threequarter pace. Myth went a mils fast, finishing strong. Fitzjames went two miles fast, but not in his old style. Dancing Master wap sent a milo at a moderate pace. He is a nice mover. Cairngorm took a as his leg was troubling him. Darnley two miles, -galloping strong and well. Privateer went two miles at half pace. Kangipo did a serviceable mile. The flying filly works in the dark. On Monday there was very little doing at Waerenga-a-hika. Ariel was put at some hurdles which he did not seem to relish, so he made tracks through the scrub some half a dozen times. He is a pure coektail. Old Charlie tried to get him over, but he preferred hiding in the scrub. Darnley went three miles in sweaters, and Nora did a strong mile and a half. Cairngorm went two miles steady. On Wednesday morning Myth was sent a mile and a half fast. She goes and stays like a demon. Dancing Master went a mile fast. He will be a tough nut to crack in the Flying Handicap. Darnley did three miles, finishing strong and pulling heavy. Fitzjamss did a good two miles, but he seemed short of work. Cairngorm went two miles slow. The best galop was done by Norah. She is at concert pitch, and went two miles fast, pulling like a whale the whole way. Her old companion Fitzjames will have to take a back seat In the handicaps. Toe Moor did a big gallop on Saturday; the old horse is not to be despised. Bit of Blue is as fit as a fiddle, and will want watching. Hi had bandages on last week, but that is getting too old. Impostor is getting ready for ths Maiden Plate, and he might prove troublesome.

Kin Bau, the sire of the yearling King Thomae, who was recently sold in America for £7600, is a son ot the Auckland Stud Company’s mare Atlantis. The company’s sire St. Leger is also out of the same mare, who is by Thormanby from Hurricane. Thirty yaars ago the veteran north-oountry jockey, J. Osborne, rode Mr Merry’s coll Saunterer to viotory in the Goodwood Cup, and on the 2nd ot August his friends had opportunity ot congratulating him on .steering over the same course the winners nt the Rous Memorial Stakes and Goodwood Co.in.bian Plate.
