The New Plymouth Harbor Rate.

ORGANISED OPPOSITION. At a largely attended meeting in the Town Hall, Waitara, on Thursday night, to protest against the N w Plymouth Harbor rate, which has just been struck, the following resolutions were carried unanimously:—(l) This meeting is of opinion that the forcing of the harbor rate by the New Plymouth Harbor is having the effect of retarding the settlement of this provincial district, and retarding many of the settlers who are endeavoring to obtain a livelihood therein ; (2)- this meeting, feeling convinced that all reasonable means have been adopted by way of deputations and petitions against the imposition of a rate for harbor purposes at New Plymouth, and levied by the New Plymouth Harbor B ard, under the authority of the Parliament of New Zealand, without the consent of the ratepayers being first obtained, and believing ■ueb rate to be both unconstitutional and legalised injustice, as well as oppressive and in some cases ruinous, hereby pledge ourselves to combine together for the purpose of resisting any further repayment of the rate, aud to suppor each one who may be proceeded against by the New Plymouth Harbor Board in protecting their property from being plundered and confiscated, by ejecting any bai iff or other officer who attempts to distrain on the property of any person who may agree hereto.
