A QUEER STATEMENT.
flO THE EDITOR,Sir,—The harbor question seams now to have devolved into a case of the blind leading the blind, I thought I had an idea of the position, until I saw that statement and “ report " which you published this morning. I got on very well with the Chairman'a figures until I had reached the last three items, which made ma gasp, and caused a violent motion in the region of my digestivlsero (A.B.N. for elucidation)—it was Tauwhareparae, frozen meat, and oil I I was convinced—only it was in the opposite direction. Turning to Mr Thomson's report, I could not help feeling astonished at the marvellous amount of information that was stored up in the historical hat. His details are superb, but the construction is a little above ms—it seems to prove to me just what it is wished to disprove. We have the most perfect plant in the colony, we are tojd—to do the smallest work, I am now made gware', for the first time, that hundreds of very serious charges hatfe been made against Mr Thomson; that he was the first to suggest an alternative scheme, and thus give rise to all the opposition. His comparison is most interesting—in one plage 49 fact of water can be got for £800,003, in another place it will cost almost a million to get half the depth; such comparisons I Some gross olovrn, it is alleged, framed our original Act. The present site was selected because it is hear ths town, etc,, etc. Well, well, Mr Editor, 1 1 will not trespass further on your spaee—l'am satisfied,—Yours truly, , 1 SoniE. ©sibber
