The water in the locality of Broken Hill is said to be highly mineralised and unfit for human consumption. At a meeting of the Whataupoko Road Board on Thursday it was resolved that at the next meeting the Board consider a better means of carrying on the pound, as the present arrangement was causing a great amount of dissatisfaction. The Sydney Evening N<wa says:—An indication of the effect produced by the land mania in Melbourne is seen in the size ot both the leading journals. They claim to be the largest ever published in Australia, and there seems to be some doubt whether they are not the largest in any part of the world.
