NAPIER PARK RACING CLUB’S SPRING MEETING. Napier, Thursday. The Napier Park Racing Club’s Spring meeting yesterday was a great success, the weather being magnificent, and the attend unce must have numbered fully 2500 persons. Among the visitors present was the Hon Mr Mitchelwn, Minister for Public Works, who ia at present iu Napier on business -n connection with his department. During the day the tutelis&tors were in full swi g and a sum of £3536 was put through. The follow ing ia a description of th« racing FREE HANDICAP. Leopold, 7st 12lb (Lindsay), 1 ; Waterfall, 7st 91b (I'age), 2 ; Batista, 7st 101 b (Katteins), 3 ; Escapade, Bst 41b ; Soudan, 7»t 2ib ; Corsair, 6it 2lb; Pretender, 6st 2ib. Dudu, Forester, and Meta were scratched.

From a capital start Corsair got away slightly in front of Pretender, with Balisia, Waterfall, and Soudan next, while Escapade brought up the tail. Very slight alteration took place until the back of the course whs reached. Balista here made a forward move, and Soudan began to drop hopelessly in the rear. At the hill bend Leopold came with a determination and soon had Pretender in difficulties. Entering the straight all the horses were under the whip with ths exception of Soudan, who was hopelessly out of the hunt. Leopold had a slight advantage □f Waterfall, who had come through his horses in magnificent style, and a shout went up for the black son of Musket, but although he struggled gamely he could not quite get on terms with Leopold, who won a splendid race all out by half a length from Waterfall, Bahaia a length away third, with Pretender alongside of him, then came Corsair and Escapade, while Soudan cantered in. Time, Imin 50 3 ssec.

Totahsators—lnside : Total, 165, 42 on the winner; dividend, £3 10s. Outside: Total, 337, 77 ou the winner; dividend, £3 183. HANDICAP hurdles. Erebus, 9st (Ballantyne), 1 : Premium, Bst 13ib—71b over (Hollo), 2 ; Harold, Bst 91b, (Redmond), 3; Kangaroo, list 71b (Pell); Clyde. 10st (Nilpiu); Elastic, Bst 71b (M’Taggart). Comet was scratched. Erebus was the first away, followed by Elastic, Premium, Harold, Clyde and Kangaroo. The first and second jumps were taken in the same order, all the horses fencing excellently. At the hurdle at the hill bend Erebus and Elastic jumped almost together, with Premium and Clyde lying about three lengths off, with Harold next, whi'e Kangaroo was last. In the straight Erebus got a length in front of Elastic, before reaching the hurdle, the positions of the other horses unchanged. The two leaders again closed up at the back of the course and rose almost at the same moment. Premium still lying three lengths away third. No change occurred until reaching the obstacle at the hill bend, when the horses began to close up. After this had been successfully negotiated it was questionable as to whether Premium, Harold, or Erebus would win, and shouts went up all over the ground first for one and then the other, and as a breach had been made in the last hurdle the three uqen? tioned came at full racing pace to see which could get through. Premium, however, gained the gap half a length in front of Eiebus, who had the inside running, the same distance separating the latter from Harold, Kangaroo being close up, while Elastic and Clyde were beaten off. It looked now almost a certainly for Premium, but his stable com-, panion, Erebus, came again, and won a good race bl a length from him, with Harold four lengths away third, Clyde fourth, Kangaroo fifth, and Elastic last. Time 4min 17seo.

Lady Florin and Rufus cut out the running at a strong pace, and Tennyson scon dropped behind. Florin continued n the van until en taring the straight, when Whisper rushed to the front, and Escapade rapidly overhauling his horses ran into third place, but although Lady Florin and Escapade tried hard to catch Whisper it was of no avail, as she won untouched bv the whip by a length and a half from Lady Florin, who beat Escapade by half a length for second place; Batista was fourth, Leopold fifth, and Forester next.
