The East Coast Hussars have completed their arrangements for holding a tournament an November 9, and their programme (or the day is to be found in another column. The tournament is to be held in Captain Tucker's paddock, and owing to there being no other public attraction sa that day there should he a large attendance tc fitness the troop's display. The rowing season will be op«u®d this afternoon with the time honored procession, which will be headed by the launch Snark, Owners of any description of boats are invited to join In the procession. Ono feature of the demonstration will be the christening of the two new pair oSred boats belonging to the Gisborne Club. This season is likely to be an especially active ops in Gisborne boating circles.

Macdonald's Royal Balmoral Minstrels Intend giving a performance at the Theatre R-yil to morrow evening. Mr and Mrs Macdonpld have already made their talents well known to many in Gisborne, and to some there is tim great attraction that all the vocal and instrumental music will be confined to popular airs. The impression created by the company should ensure them a good house. Our London correspondent writes :—The continuance of unfavorable weather has produced much etmitement in the Hop market, and prices have rises considerably during the month. Almost all tka better class of sound hops which were not sold Jjave been withdrawn from the market. The crop .will certainly be a short one, and buyers are looking for sustained high prices. Malt: For really fine quality the market is firmer, but is well supplied with lower grades, which continue to sell at moderate figures.
