A Sydney journal had the following rowing paragraph before tbe recent Searle-Kemp match. The forthcoming championship race te causing considerable excitement, and as lha date becomes nearer the excitement becomes greater, which, however,'must be expected when a stranger to Sydney people about ton monthe ago cornea out in the aquatic world and wins every contest that he competes la—as Seqrle has done. There are a great many frequenters of the Parramatta river lately who evidently are on the touting principle, but the present mode of training for sculling conteits on the river seems to defeat every open eye, and should a person suddenly observe a sculler dieguiaed he fails to make out who the party is, owing to the great shook ho has received by seeing a “ masculine ” rowing in splendid form ,and then thoughtlessly mutters to himself “ Well, I’ve never saw him on the river before." Though matching Searle with Teemer under the specified conditions has fairly awakened the public, who seem to make the Clarence River sculler their fancy, especially in every oonepicuous spirting corner, there will probably be a great deal of money change hafiiis over this groat event, as those who pin their faith to Searle are almost willing to back him to their last oopner.
