That Righteous Wail.
[to this bdisoß.j Mishter Heditor,—Show me the man to tread on the tail ave me coat 1 Where is the man to call a public meeting of my town and to does the same without waiting for my own sweet speech ? Such lamentations might have teen heard qutside the City Rink on Friday night, after the close of the meeting, by one of the Oity Councillors who, through not attending to the public duties he has taken upon himself, arrived at the meeting too late to deliver himself ot the store of eloquence he had prepared himself with for the occasion. And, sir, I with other people, much regret the meeting being so short, as I fear we shall not again have the opportunity of listening toeuoh a charming oration ; but, sir, this brings'me to the point of my ideas. Let me give our respected Mayor a hint, {n order to prevent such a disappointment in future to any self appointed public advocate, I say let the Mayor either send the Borough mail coach for the people’s self-appointed champion, or, which would be better, let the Mayor engage one of Edison’s phonographs, and then we can leave the result of the meeting to any late comer*, who can have the facte repeated to them, and thus prevent such mis-statements as we see at times in our newspapers. I think it was not expected that the meeting would be a long one, as the question was only whether a poll should be taken. Well, I think that no sane person oan have any doubt on this question, I say take the poll and’ carry it by an overwhelming majority—that is, to my mind, the only answer to the question; and further, to every well-wisher of this district I say record vour vote for the works to go on.—l am, Am., J pßOßlteaS.
