Charitable Aid Disputes.

GALBBAITH’S OASE—PROBABILITY OF LEGAL PROCEEDINGS. (FROM OUB OWN COMMPOND ENT.) Napier, last night. A matter which interests ths Gisbcno public cropped up at the meeting of the Charitable Aid Board here this afternoon. Correspondence was read relative to a claim made by tbe Board upon the Gisborne Board for the maintenance of a Qian named Hugh Galbraith, who left Gisborne in 1886 and came to the Napier refuge. It appears that the Gisborne Benevolent Society first took the matter up, and guaranteed to pay five shillings a week towards the keep of Galbraith if the Napier Board would take him. The Rev. Mr McAra, Secretary, conducted the negotiation. The Napier Board agreed to the proposition. Galbraith has been here ever since. It is now asserted that the Gisborne Benevolent Society has ceased to act, and the Gi-borne Charitable Aid Board repudiate the liability. In one letter read by tbe Secretary it was shewn that the account had been actually passed for payment at one meeting, but at the next meeting it waa decided not to forward the cheque. The Board was unanimously of opinion, that in the face of the guarantee thatfive ahillings a week would be paid towards Galbraith's keep, something should be done to enforce payment. It was eventually moved by Mr Dick, and carried, “ that the Board's Solicitors be consulted with regard to the matter and that they be instructed if they deem ft advisable so to do to take steps against the Gisborne Board to compel the payment of the amount in arresri."
