TROUBLES LOOMING IN NAPIER. [from ottb own cobbespondent.] Napier, last night. A meeting ol the creditors 0! J. G. Kinross, merchant, was held this morning, but as the bankrupt was ill in bed, and there was no statement of assets and liabilities before Ih'e meeting, it was decided to adjourn it till the 21st inst. The estate is a very large one, and is in rather a'complicated state. Trade is in a very bad way just now, and it is a well known fact that there is more than one firm that are not in as sound a position financially as they would wish, and a number of private individuals are like O’Callaghan, “on their last legs.” There is no prospect seemingly of business reviving oithcr.

Our contemporary is responsible for a statement that the Deputy Official Assignee is preparing a list of all the bankruptcies that have occurred in Gisborne, which when completed will be published. We can hardly believe that Mr Croft would be guilty of using his official position to throw “ stinking fish ” at the district in this way—the newspaper in which the paragraph appeared has done quite enough in this respect—but if he has really expressed his intention of doing so we hope he will reoonsider it. It can serve no public or official purpose, and may bring the place into discredit with outsiders. We are not at all sure either that individuals treated in this way would not have a substantial legal remedy,
