London, Jan. 10. The Manchester Chamber of Commerce is taking a plebiscite in that city on its own Protection resolutions. Prince Henry, of Battenburg, has been appointed Governor of the Isle of Wight. The Board of Trade returns show there ha*’ been a revival of trade during the year. Major Falconer, uncle Qf the Earl of Kin tore, is dead. The World says that the quarrel between Lord and Lady Connemara was caused by the latter demanding the exclusion of her husband's niece, Lady Eva Quin, from Government House. Lord Conuqmara at first refused, but subsequently agreed, and the pair have been reconciled. Lady Eva returns to England. A fund is being organised here for the relief of the Chinese who are suffering from famine in consequence of the recent floods in China. At the public reception tendered him by the people of Birmingham Mr Chamberlain said he would not accept a title if offered one. A twofold Parliament was necessary in order to ensure a better despatch of business, namely, the relegation of much of the work to Grand Committees, and the personal punishment of members gnilty of disorderly conduct. Lord Kimberley, speaking at Wymondham, said the colonies were evidently anxious to secure as Governors peers of the realm, and this wish, he thought, should be gratified. In reply to a deputation on the subject, Lord Knutsford disclaimed any intention on the part of the Government of handing over Bechuanaland to Cape Colony. The Pops has sent a golden medal to Cardinal Manning.
Pabis, Jan 10. The contractors for the Panama Canal are accepting shares in the Panama Railway as a temporary guarantee. They will continue the work at their own expense till February 15.
Bbrltn, Jan. 10. The National Zeitung deprecates the Morier incident being allowed to cause friction between England and Germany. Diplomatic negotiations on the subject are still proceeding. Dr Junker discredits the statements recently made to the effect that Stanley and Emin Bey met with disasters in Central Africa.
The trade between Hamburg and Aus' tralia has increased enormously.
Belgrade, Jan. 10. The election of a Servian Cabinet is being deferred.
New York, Jan. 10. Kilrain and Sullivan will fight for the championship of the world at New Orleans in July, the money stakes being twenty thousand dollars.
St Petersburg, Jan. 10. The Shah of Persia is on a visit to the Czar.
