Wesleyan Church Picnic
Ths annual picnic in connection with the Wesleyan Church was held round the Kaiti beach yesterday, permission being kindly given by Messrs Butt and Finn for the use of the shady valley in which their cottage is situated. The weather could not have been more pleasant—it was a trifle warm, perhaps, but the contrast with the previous day was enough to make everyone content that they had been so well served as regards the weather. The spot selected has the advantage of being near town and permitted of a great variety of amusements being indulged in. Besides the ordinary games those who chose could have a bath along the beach or do a “ ruralise " amongst the shady groves near at hand Altogether there were about 200 persons present, and a really happy time was spent. The Committee exerted themselves in the performance of the many labors which the management of such an affair entails, and they were very successful. If the young people were at all backward in enjoying themselves, they could not have long resisted the effective method which the Bev. Mr Ward had of making everyone around him jolly ; at any rate everything went along merrily, and when the time for returning came round the day seemed much too short.thoughall admitted the cause of this to be the happiness which it had ensured. Before rising from ths tea the Rev. Mr Ward briefly expressed bis pleasure at the success that had attended the gathering i and also on behalf of the Committee took the opportunity to thank Messrs Butt and Finn for their kindness in allowing the use of their property, and called for cheers for thoss gentlemen, a hearty response being made. It is a noted thing that any gathering promoted by the Wesleyan body is always a success in point of the sociability which is apparent, and the one held yesterday was no exception to the rule.
