BRAVO GISBORNE!

Gisbobne has bo often carried off the honor of being in educational matters at the head of the Hawke's Bay district that the result of the recent pupil teachers' examination does not come upon us in the form of a surprise, Still we can be none the leas gratified, and if we are a little jubilant, there are good reasons for it. In the First Year, Edith Faram heads the list, having an equal number of marks (1024 out oi 1220) with Clara King; Blanche Bouillon, of Gisborne, coming next with 1015. Mias Faram is certainly entitled to first place, having an advantage in the leading subjects. Out of ten in this class there are only the two Gisborne candidates; of the ten there were two were one failing. In the Third Year Gisborne does not oome off quite so wall, but still very satisfactorily. George Watt (Napier) heads the list with 1097 out of 1280, Frank Thomson (Gisborne) second with 1066, and Ernest Matthews (Gisborne) third with 1054, The latter secured 118 marks for arithmetic out of a possible 120. There were thirteen candidates. The other Gisborne candidate, we are sorry to say, was just a couple of marks short of the required number, but the failure is attributable to ill health, and the candidate is entitled to every sympathy. In the Fourth Year there ware thirteen candidates —two from Gisborne—and in this difficult class our representatives achieved the most signal victory. Miss Mary Baker beat the outsiders by 145 marks—llsB out of a possible 1280, Mr John Trimmer (Gisborne) a good second with 1099 marks. For arithmetic the latter candidate secured 115 marks out of a possible 120. The figures presented speak so well for Gishorne that nothing more need be added, excepting to heartily congratulate the candidates and those to whom the credit is due for bringing them out so well, and to express a hope that they may be as successful in the future.
