J Battery Affairs.

(TO THE EDITOR.) Sin, —Having read a couple of letters from “Gunners” in your issues of Thursday and Saturday, it struck me as an opportune time to raise my voice in the matter, and to express disgust at the manner in which the men of the Battery arc being treated by those.at tho head of affairs. I was present at a raiding hold some months ago when the Finance Committee were appointed to make a statement of the corps’ property, prepare balance sheet, etc., preparatory to winding up—to be presented at a meeting to bo called a fortnight hence. Up t-o the present this has not been done, nor does there appear any likelihood of this favor being granted the men unless they thsmselves take action in the matter. Your correspondents state that the Battery should have a good sum of money in hand, including last year's capita. Hon, and if such be the case, the question can ba asked why do not the Finance Committee present a statement of accounts, etc., to prove or disprove the assertions ? Owing to the silence of the Committee the men are comple'eiy In the dark as to the real state of affairs, which leads, I admit, to uncomplimentary remarks being made. A suggestion, however, which should be satisfactory to all concerned would be to appoint an outside accountant to make out a balancesheet. As with oil and rowing, an “ iudlgua nation meeting " is assuredly needed in the present instance, and it is to be hoped that some of the members of the corps will combine to this end. If the Battery has any money in hand, sooner, I say, give it to the Hospital or some benevolent society than let it remain in the hands of those who at present control it, Gunner No. 3.
