Shipments to Sydney.
Sydney, Feb. 0. The Taupo arrived here the other day, but the result of the shipment of stock has noi yqt been asceitained.
In reference to the above a Pxtea correspondent writes : —The country up north is looking splendid, both grain and grass crops being very luxuriant. One crop of wheat near Patea, belonging to Mr Harry Davis, is expected to yield at least 60 bushels to the acre. Tfie gruss seed yield also promises to be very heavy, and a good return is anticipated, and one settlor has no less than 30 men employed, at 8a per diem, cutting cocksfoot with the sickle. The Western Packing Company are putting through about 90 head of cattle and 400 sheep per week, as well as 100 casks of tallow. The number of oases of preserved meats waiting export ia about 1000, valued at from £l2OO to £l4OO, and the Company’s connection extends over the whole of the Australasian colonies, as wall as London and Java, The management Is arranging for the erection of one of Haslam's 140,000 ft refrigerators, and three dams are now in course of erection, and many other Additions and alterations are expected to be in readiness for the ensuing season, when a largo increase of trade is looked for.
