BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Borough Council held its regular for nightly meeting on Tuesday eveni n Present: The Mayor, Crs Dunlop, Le wi Lucas, Taylor, Coleman, and Whinray. WAIKANAE MUD FLATS. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that as there was an impression in the Borough that the nightsoil contractor emptied nightsoil into the Waikanae river he had made an examination, and found that the smells came from the mud flats and decaying vegetable matter. The Mayor said the smells coming from the Waikanae at times were something awful. ROAD OVERSEER'S REPORT. The Road Overseer made the following report : —

Stone contract: Mr Morgan has commenced his contract, about 100 yards of concrete having been delivered near the Old Brewery.—Concrete tank : Mr McLoughlin has pushed on this work, and will be finished in a few days.—Stable : This contract is completed, and ready for inspection by the Public Works Committee.—Waikanae dam: I have had this work taken down, and the timber carted to the reserve near the engine shed, at a cost of £2 15s. — Harris and Customhouse streets were very much out of repair owing to the heavy traffic on them while Read’s quay was being metalled. These I had repaired last week, and also some repairs to Roebuck road and Disraeli street.—Carting for the month £5 17s 6d, day labor £7 13s, as per vouchers. PAYMENTS.

REPAIRS TO FOOTPATH. On the motion of Cr Lucas it was resolved that a few chains of the footpath in Lowe street, between Mr Parnell's shop and the Gisborne hotel, should be repaired and kerbing laid down.
