A Promising Prospect.

The following telegram has been received from Mr Beere, the surveyor who recently went to the Baton to examine the auriferous ground there, Nelson, 4th March, 1889.

Returned from Baton, Highly impressed with auriferous character of Messrs Turnbull and Davies'freehold sluicing property. They have decided on a course of water races and a mode of working the terraces. The wash dirt averages 10 feet in depth over the whole property. Seven parties are working along the river adjoining, all doing well. Hall and party got seven ounces out of nine feet square last week, making 48 ounces for the fortnight. In reference to this the Press remarks :— Mr Thomas Turnbull, one of the proprietors of the freehold at the Baton, who is the eldest sot) of Mr Richard Turnbull. M.H.8., for Titnaru, passed through Wellington to-day on his way to the goldfield. He has personally examined the land, and is convinced that it ia the nicest goldfield in the colony. In fact, he ia afraid to say what he thinks of it, lest he should be thought to be romancing. Mr Turnbull is an exceedingly trustworthy and scrupulous man in all his ways, and as little likely to impose on himself as on others. We sincerely hope his most sanguine expectations will be realised,
