London, March 15. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Baron de Worms said he felt confident that Queensland would yet contribute her share toward the cost of the Australian fleet. It is understood that Lord Randolph Churchill will co-operate with Mr Gladstone in opposing the naval proposals of the Government. Ottawa, March 14. The Canadian Government have intimated their willingness to subsidise the Atlantic Mail Service tn the extent of £lOO,OOO, and the Japan and Australian Service to the extent of £l5O 000, provided the Australian colonies agree to co-operate. Pah is, March 15. The affairs of the Comptoir d'Escompte de Paris have experienced a relapse, and a panic is feared. It is rumored that the directors of the Bank of France have resigned as a protest against the action of the officers of the Bank in making advances to the Comptoir d'Escompte It is admitted that one director has resigned in consequence of this action. March 17. The Comptoir de Escomte bank shares of £2O are selling at £25. It is probable that a new company will be formed to continue the Eastern Australian business of the bank. Measures are being taken for expelling from France the foreign supporters of General Boulanger. London, March 17. Mr Parnell baa subpoenaed Lord Carnarvon the Right Hon. Sir William Vernon as witnesses on his behalf before ~ ~ s Commission. . A northern coal syndicate is projected with a capital of one hundred millions sterling. Sirs Langtry is reported to be in a precarious State of health. It is suggested that ths Marquis of Lorne should be appointed to the Governorship of the Cape.
