A letter was received from Mr Morgan, asking for one month’s extension of time on his gravel contract.—Granted. INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES’ REPORT. In his report the Inspector of Nuisances assured the Council that he regretted anything he had said against the then nightsoil contractor, as the latter had some secret enemy dodging his footsteps, and trying to injure him in the Council’s estimation. ROAD OVERSEER’S REPORT. Stone contract: Mr Morgan is still pushing on his contract, but owing to some accident he has only b een able to deliver about 800 yards, and the time for completing this work expires on the 81st of this month. The contract cannot be completed in the time specified. Berry and Russell Streets : Th# work ordered by your Council at last meeting for repairing these two streets, has been done, Berry Street cost £S 18s 6d, and Bussell Street £4 2s fid. Artesian Well: Mr Gilhred is progressing favorably with his contract. About 103 feet have beenjsunk. When at 98 feet they came in contact with a very hard log, then a hard bed of shingle about 3 feet in thickness, and which appeared to be very dry. I would recommend a progress payment of £3O for the above work. Drains: This month is the time for clearing out all the outlet drains. I would recommend your Council to have them done. The three drains will cost about £22. Poplar Trees : The young poplars on the South side at the upper end of Gladstone Road are getting very thick, and are as high as the telegraph wires. If your Council decide to have them all grubbed up, it will cost about £9 10s. Fences, &c. .
