An outspoken Schoolboy.

|TO THE EDITOR.] Sin,—lt is sincerely to ba hoped that the newly-appoiuted pound keeper will not attempt to exact so much from the public as does the present one. The horses of schoolboys might at least be dealt with leniently, but in the two following instances I will show that this has not been done. A pupil attending the school (Colin Dunlop) had his horse impounded for about five minutes and in order to obtain its release found it necessary to borrow from Mr Morgan, the headmaster, four shillings and six pence. The impounding was done in defiance of the protests made by several of the scholars attending the school, who could easily have caught the animal. Some of the remarks made to the ranger by the youngstere were not at all complimentary, but apparently not stronger than were deserved. On Thursday the horse of another pupil (Murray Morrice) was also impounded. On this occasion Mr Morgan had left the school, and the boy deprived of his horse had to obtain a “ double banked lift ” to Matawhero, the horse

remaining in the pound. It seems very much as if the person employe! by the present poundkeeper is making a special raid on the horses ridden by the boys who attend the school, and I as a schoolboy consider it most unfair treatment at the hands of a School Committeeman.—l am &c., SCHOODBOT.
