Up to the present time £392,000 have been epent upon the Melbourne Hospital. Mr James Edwards, J.P., held * magisterial inquiry last week into the death of a woman, 70 years of age, named Elizabeth Latouche, who resided by herself in a wretched two roomed hovel at, Campbelltown in the Clunes district, in Victoria. A neighbour calling at the hut looked in at the window, and saw her lying on the floor. On the ?lace being opened, she was found to be dead. he deceased had been living on charity for several years, and was an out-patient of the Clunes Hospital and a noted beggar. On the place being searched by Sergeant Nolan, a bank deposit receipt for £ll4l, dated three year* ago, was discovered. The only relation of the deceased known is said to be a married niece residing in Kent (England). The evidence showed that death was due to natural cause*; and the magistrate* recorded a verdict to this effect.
