NAPIER PARK RACE MEETING. Napisb, last night The Napier Park Race Meeting commenced on Tuesday last, and was well attended. The following are the results of the principal events :— Handicap Hurdle Race, of 100 sov?, oeoond horse to receive 10 sovs from the stakef. Two miles. Mr C. Joyce’s Premium, 9.5, Redmond •• 1 Mr J. Hickey’s Raven, 9.10. Pell •• ‘ Mr B. Newman’s Orlando. 10-7. Newman 8 —Oddfellow, The Moor, Ngatoka, and Maribyrnonglalso ran. Taikaha was scratched. At the fall of the flag the green velvet of Raven was soon in front, Orlando being next. At the back of the course Raven still had tha lead, Orlando being 2nd, Premium Bid, Oddfellow 4th, The Moor s'h, and Marybyrnonff and Ngatoka last. At the turn The Moor fell but in a very short time O’Shannasaey bad mounted him again, and he started after tne field. The hurdle in the straight was taken first by Baven, Premium knocked it. down, and just as it was fallingMarybyrnong jumped and it capsized him, thus puttinghim out 01 the race. At the back Premium still had the lead, Raven being in close attendance. At the turn Orlando went up, but he could never catch Premium, and was just beaten by hail a neck by Raven for second place. Time. 4 min 7| secs. Sapling Stakes Handicap, of 50 aova, six furlongs.
Mr J. Munn’s Quilt, 8.4, Morrigan ... I Captain Russell’s Eileen, 6.12, Whitaker 2 Mr G. Gibson’s The Beau, 7.5, Higgins » —Strephon was scratched. This was a very slowly run race, the tuna taken to do the six furlonga being 1 min 23 secs. Eileen and The Beau got away at tna start, Quilt holding back. At the turn Munn a horse went up and came In winning hard held. Dividend,: £1 10s and £1 14a. Napier Cup Handicap, of 250 sovs, one a half mile. Mr C. Beresford’s Leopold, 7.11, Lindsay 1 Mr G. Hunter's Lenore, 6.12, MoMorrin 8 Mr Dickey's Tetford, 7.10, Page .. ® —Silence, Salisbury, Cupid, Foxton, and Thyme also ran. Recluse, Escutohen, Partner, and Turehau were scratched. A heavy shower of rain fell before this race, and the going wae rendered heavy in conse. quence. At the fall of the flag Tetford rushed off to the front, followed by Cupid, Leopold, and Lenore. In front of the stand Tetford had a lead of three lengths from Lenore. Al the back the son of Musket still led, Lenore being 2nd, Leopold 3rd, Cupid 4th, Foxton Sth, and Thyme last. When the turn was reached Leopold want up, and when the straight was reached it wee seen that there was nothing else in the race. Leopold cams through his horses and won easily, Lenore taking second place, and Tetford 3rd, Balisbury 4th, Foxton sth, Oupid 6th, and Thyme last. Dividends: £4 19s and £4 Ils. Hack Race, of 40 sovs, one mile. Mr J. Reed's Truth, 7.0, MoMorrin .. 1 Mr J. Kennedy’s The Dove, 8 10, Kennedy 2 Mr J. Munn's Burd Helen, 7.0, Page .. > —Akato, Charles, Kohoro, and Herbert also ran. Melrose wu soratohed. The Dove got away with the start, Akato being second, At the back The Dove still led, but at the turn Truth went up and took oom. mand, eventually winning easily. Burd Helen came too late or she would have run into 2nd place. Dividends : Inside, £8 12s, outside, £8 13s. Selling Back, of 40 sovs. Mr P. Martin's Soudan, Vaile .. 1 Mr Henty’s Orwell, Moore .. .. 2 Mr Munn’s Rangipai, Page .. .. 8 Patchwork, Clyde and Bronte also ran. At the fall of the flag Rangipai got off with the lead, Soudan being 2nd. The race is easily described. Snudan kept the 2nd place until the straight was reached, when he went into the first place and kept in front until the post was reached. Orwell came in well at the finish, but could not catch the leader. Pont Race, of 25 sovs, second pony to receive 5 sovs from the stakes ; 7 furlongs. Mr J. Martin’s Kapai, 6.12. Collello .. 1 Mr E. Gilpin’s Pairawhata, 7.0, MoMorrin J Mr T. Parotene’e Coral, 8.10, MoTaggart ® —Waxy, Jumbo, Celery, Nigger, Lady Grey, Aspen, Hukutiana, Waiwaipai, Whakawua, Cigarette, Adversity, Minimini, and Highland Mary also ran. This was a capital raoe. Won by fully two lengths. Dividends : Inside, £5 15s ; outside £5 ISs. Flying Handicap, of 100 sovs, second horse to receive 10 sova from the stakes. Six furlongs. Mr D’ Hepburn’s Audacity, 7.12, Stowe 1 Mr C. Beresford's Escutcheon, 8.2, Kean 2 Mr J. Munn’s Tennyson, 6.10, Shaw 8 —Tetford, Kotuku, Kariri, and Dauphins also ran. Recluse, Forester, Man Friday, and Iphigenia were soratohed, Tennyson went to the front at the fall of the flag, and led the field the greater portion of the race, but near the finish Audacity went up and took command, never being headed, winning easily. Dividends £7 12s and £9 19s. Time 1 min 20 secs.
SECOND DAY. The following are the results of ths secox day’s racing:— Second Handicap Hubdlx Race, of 75 sovs, second horse to receive 10 sovs from the stakes. Distance lj miles. Mr C. Joyce’s Premium. 10.4 .. .. 1 Mr F. Bristol’s Marybyrnong, 10.10 .. 2 Mr G. Smith’s The Moor, 8.9 .. .. —Taikaha was the only other starter. Premium won as he liked in a canter. Dividends : £2 and £1 7s reaped-* ively. Two Yeab Old Stakes, of 50 sovs. Six furlongs. Mr J. Munn’s Quilt, 8.10 •• .. J Captain Bussell's Eileen, 7.8 .. 8 Mr G. A. Gibson’s The Bean, 6 0 ~ 8 —Captain Russell’s Pisoadors wu the only other starter. Thio was an excellent raoe, Eileen being only beaten by a neck, The Beau a length behind third. Dividends: £1 5s and £1 gs. City Stakes Handicap, of 200 iqvs, aooond horse to receive 20 sovs from ths stakes. Distance If milee. Messrs Stock and Conroy’s Salisbury, 7.6 1 Mr J. Bobbett’a Patchwork .. ~ 8 —Tennyson was scratched. Won by a length, Bronte and Patchwork close together, Dividends: £4 3s and £8 12a Waverly Stakes, of six furlongs. Mr P. Martin's Jet d’Eau .. ~ 1 Mr Beresford’s Escutcheon ~ ~ 2 Mr Hepburn’s Audacity ~ ~ 8 Won easily. Dividends £l3 Gs and £l9 10s.
