Leases of the Canterbury runs will be put up for sale on the following days, viz., those south of Bangitata on the 80th of May, at Timaru ; those north of that river on the 6th of June following, at Christchurch. A sensational incident occurred at the Williamstown pier on Saturday evening, the 16th, as the Ormuz was starting on her voyage to Sydney. A newly-married couple, intending to take their honeymoon trip to Sydney, called out to be taken on board. The sailors threw a line, and they were being hauled on board, when just as they reached ths rail both lost their hold and fell into the water. The lady, who was a good swimmer, struck out boldly. Her husband was also a swimmer, Both were rescued by the boat, but they miesed their pastege.
