It has been said over and over again that the strongest feeling oF antagonism existed between the Minister of Education and the Premier. I have excellent authority for saying that this is not the case. Ths relations of these two Ministers have always been courteous and considerate. At the same time the Minister of Education is held to be responsible in some way for a good deal of the discord which has led to this deadlock. I am told that the discussion which took plaoe upon the appointment of the judge (or rather upon the non-appolntment of Judge Ward) were characterised by a great deal of strong feeling, and that similar manifsstatlons occurred upon the more recent discussions an to the appointment of a successor to Mr Blackett, engineer.in ohtef, a matter which is hardly yet decided ; indeed, Cabinet meet. Ings of late have been anything but pleasant places. How far the Hon. Mr Fisher may be responsible for what has taken place I do not know. His friends declare that he is more Binned against than sinning, but the important matter is that contentions, prejudice, predilections, personal and political, have combined to bring about a state of things which cannot much longer continue.—N.
