Fire Brigade Competition.

THE NAPIER FIREMEN.

OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Napier, last night. A meeting of the Napier Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Brigade Station last evening, Superintendent Waterworth occupying the chair. A telegram was received from the Gisborne Volunteer Fire Brigade in connection with the forthcoming competition to be held at Gisborne, in which the Hastings and Spit Brigades will be represented. The wire asked that three men might be sent if a whole team could not make it convenient to get away. After a little discussion it was decided to reply to the effect that the Brigade did not see its way clear to send the number mentioned, as none of them could obtain leave for such a period. The next matter discussed was the recent fire, in Melbourne, when the Bijou Theatre, in which Messrs Brough and Bouccicault’s company were playing, was burnt to the ground. A member of the East Melbourne Brigade having been killed and several others severely injured at the fire by a falling wall, it was decided to forward a letter of condolence to the brigade mentioned, by the next mail.
