Harbor Engineer’s Position.

Tais subject came op again at the last meeting of the Harbor Board. With regard to the notice of action served on the Board by Mr Thomson, his solicitor (Mr ▼ Kenny) wrote that the notice had not been given in a hostile spirit. It was simply to comply with the Act to protect himself. The motion of which Mr Shelton had given notice, that the Board go into Committee to endeavour to arrange with Mr Thomson as to the terms of his appointment, was seconded by Mr Bennett, and agreed to. On resuming, the committee recommended —“That the Board offer Mr Thomson a re engagement at the end of his present term, 30th June, 1889, at a salary of £BOO per annum, payable monthly, six months’ notice of termination of engagement to be given or received. In the event of stoppage in the breakwater construction the Engineer’s engagement to cease at the time of such stoppage." The recommendation wae adopted, with an expression of opinion tbat the Engineer take a few days to consider hie answer.
