The S.S. Australia, again in Trouble.

COLLISION IN BANGITOTO CHANNEL. Auckland, last night.

The Australia, which was nearly wrecked on the East Coast, got into trouble again last night. She was on her way for Gisborne and other Southern ports, when she collided with the American barque Essex, from Brisbane, and tug Awhina, which was lashed to the barque.

The Australia’s port quarter was dented and her deck planks slightly started, while the barque’s bowsprit was carried away and her rigging damaged. The injuries were not much in either case, but the tug was badly damaged and as she was making water it was considered advisable to beach her.

At present it is hard to account for the mishap, but it is believed that Captain Crawshaw, of the Australia, is in no way to blame.
