Fire Brigade Competition.
Thbbs is not much question but that the Fire Brigade Competition to-morrow will be a great success. There will not ba the number of teams competing that had been expected, but that is not likely to detraet from the success of the competition, There will be a gay time of it to-night, when a torchlight procession will take place, and the occasion made an ontertaining one by a programme including many comicalities. The fun will not be lessened by the fact that no charge will be made for looking on. Unfortunately the Hawke’s Bay firemen will not arrive in time to take part in the procession, but they will make a struggle for a good place in the prize list on Friday. The competition will be doubly interesting when we remember that the two brigades that have won the champion shield of the Colony will be well represented—that is the Gisborne and Spit Brigades. Gisborne now holds the shield, and hopes to eventually make it their property. Of course the forthcoming cqmpetition cannot decide the matter, but it will give the people of thia district an opportunity to judge of the work of the respective brigades, The oompetition begins at 8.30 to-morrow morning, and no charge will be made here, as is the custom in other plates,
