We underitand that Messrs Stubbs, Graham, and J. Brown left town for the Pacific works on Saturday la>t, for the purpose of ascertaining, if possible, the present position of the bore. Messrs Graham and Brown returned yesterday afternoon. We are informed that steam was got up, and Mr Stubbs proceeded by various tests to ascertain the present position of the tools, which he found to be fast at the bottom of the hole, where they were left by Mr W. I. Weaver before his departure. Owing to the machinery being in such bad order, Mr Stubbs was unable to make all the tests he wished, but we believe has satisfied himself sufficiently to be able to give an answer to the Sydney Board to-day. Whilst on this subject we would ask how is it that the machinery is so unworkable ? Have there not been weeks upon weeks when the two Weavers have bean perambulating the town, whan they might have been far better employed remedying defects in the plant ? From practical man who have seen it lately, we hear that it is in a state that is discreditable to all concerned. Mr Stubbs informed Mr Graham he would ba home late last night. If Mr Stubbs undertakes the work there will be a chance of some practical result being made known within a reasonable periofl instead of a continuation of the experience of the past,
