It is not yet definitely decided who will second the Address in Reply to the speech from the throne. No amendment of the Land Act will be proposed by the Government this year, unless any unforeseen point should arise rendering this absolutely necessary.

The cost of the 1777 miles of Government railway, open up to the 81st March, has been ascertained to have been £13,472,837' The total sum expended on the railway Construction up to the close of the financial year, including all the unfinished lines, hog. been £14,875,187. The Government are understood to have definitely resolved that they will not introduce this session any bill to amend the Education Act. It is found that public opinion, both inside and outside Parliament, is so much divided that no certainty •xist* as to the changes which would find favor with a majority. The total savings on appropriations of tbs Public Works Fund amount to £216,602, and the excesses to £18,633. The outstanding liabilities under the land, fund account are £10,213, whereas in the seven previous years these amounted respectively to £24.037, £44,717, £49,099, £33,877, £27,410, £26,189, and £87,562.
